Nifty Little Minimalistic Machine for Great Coffee
4/5
As someone completely new to coffee machines this has been a brilliant upgrade especially considering the size and price point. I was previously a 'once in the morning' instant coffee (albeit with premium brands) drinker and this changed my habits due to how great the coffee is and how easy it is to use, with myself often tempted to have a decaff later in the day for that great taste without the caffeine kick. With the Aeroccino3 milk frother you also have an expanded number of drink options to choose from, I started off with reversos and mug drunks and am now making lattes and cappuccinos, sometimes with added flavoured syrups or even chocolate as a treat. Friends who've come over have been really impressed by the quality of coffee and are now considering getting their own or for Xmas gifts. Similarly, some others have responded to my Insta stories stating how delicious the coffee looks as well as the cool design of the machine. The Welcome pack of capsules is pretty good and has enough variety to let you decide what you prefer. It's also fairly easy to order more from the website with free next-day delivery if you spend a certain amount. The capsules themselves are made of aluminium and are fully recyclable, though I haven't used up enough to send back so can't comment any further, but it's great that waste is minimal. As great as the Pop is, there are some issues. The temp of the coffee coming out could be a lot hotter, even with the Aeroccino3 heated milk my drinks are just warm, not hot. In addition, although it is easy to use, the feedback/troubleshooting could be a lot better. The first time i tried to use the machine it dribbled a tiny amount of coffee with some residue floating in it. After some fiddling I realised it was because the water tank didn't have a full connection with the machine and needed to pressed with some more force. I would expect the machine to give an error and prevent use until the tank was properly connected, not to proceed with making coffee badly. The machine feedback is general is poor with just the button lighting up to indicate any issues, there is an accompanying app but that has it's own issues (e.g. for me it always shows my Pop as being locked position regardless of what position it's actually in). Lastly, the Vertuo barcode capsule tech is patented so there are no providers other than Nespresso, thus they can charge you whatever they like for your coffee. In summary, great look and design, and incredible coffee.
