Good, but could be better
4/5
Externally it's slightly smaller than our last freezer, but it seems much larger internally. The drawers are robust in their construction and look like they'd be able to take a few knocks without breaking. There are a couple of minor criticisms. The thermostat and indicator lights are inside the door, so they're not visible unless the door is opened. Personally, I'd prefer to be able to easily see when the fast-freeze is switched on, rather than to have to open the door first. Also, unlike most other freezers, there's no separate fast-freeze switch. Instead, you have to wind the thermostat round to it's maximum setting. I'd far prefer to have a separate fast-freeze button and not have to fiddle with the thermostat setting to use fast-freeze. I spent a while making fine adjustments to the thermostat on our last freezer in order to ensure that it wasn't running far too cold - and therefore wasting electricity. This isn't going to be possible with this new freezer because the setting will be lost every time fast-freeze is used. Finally, I'm not a fan of the way the flaps on the top two compartments are designed. On the top compartment, the flap opens upwards while on the next compartment the flap opens downwards. In both cases the flaps are not recessed inside the freezer, so when they're open they're very prone to damage if the freezer door is closed on top of them. The result is that it's almost inevitable that before too long someone in the family will accidentally close the door on an open flap and break it. Overall, though, I'm reasonably happy with my purchase. The freezer is quiet, and the improved insulation seems to mean that it doesn't spend so much time running.
