I reguarly noticed Henry's cheery face in my workplace and knew he was a good worker I've always wanted one of my own but kept getting my head turned by the more popular, slim, lightweight vacuums! Last week however I literally jumped at the chance to get my hands on his green cousin Harry and see how he stands up to the daily routine in our house.
So in the box there were two straight poles and a cuved pole, a tapered hose and a bag with an array of attachments. A crevice tool, a dusting nozzel, a multi use head with brush attachment and a tube adaptor which allows the use of the attachments direct onto the hose rather than one of the poles. There was also 5 spare bags in the box, each with a 9-litre dust bag capacity and a MicroFresh charcoal filter that sits on top to remove pet odours.
Harry was relatively easy to put together without looking at the instruction manual - when I did have a quick look though I must say I didn't find it to be particularly informative anyway.
I attached the standard head and switched on the machine to use on our living room carpet (the switch is just the on/off switch not the two level of power one found on a variant model). The suction was fantastic and i could actually see the carpet lifting as I pulled back towards me, however I really struggled and found it jumped - almost stuck in the carpet as I tried to push away again. Maybe I was using it incorrectly I'm not sure? The only way I could manage to vaccuum the floor was to pull back towards me, lift it up and put it back down adistance away from me again. This felt like a lot of hard work!
The Hairobrush is the attachment Harry has in addition to the standard ones which come with Henry and Hetty. I was keen to use this, not for pet hairs but infact for mine! I am always shedding hair and it sticks out like a sore thumb on our cream bedroom carpet. The tool worked wonders and literally lifted them like magic, i was super impressed and it was a lot less hard work than using the standard brush. The only drawback (which I found out afterwards!!) is that my hair is now wrapped round the brush bar of that tool so I'm going to have to look at taking it apart to remove which doesn't look like an easy feat!
The dusting brush is great for skirting boards and such like and the upholstery attachment and brush is just as good and worked fantasically on our matress.
Overall I'm happy to have Harry in our home as an additional vacuum but I feel I would get very frustrated if I was to have him as our only vacuum. After using a cordless popular brand for sometime, I find the size of Harry and the extra effort needed to do a sweep of our living room carpet quite a drawback. It's a shame really as I know how many people swear by Numatic, but Harry just isn't really for me.
