Good looking TV not so keen on the software

    4/5
This TV looks well, the tiny, almost imperceptible bevel adds to it''s perceived screen size and it is forgotten once watching. It is lightweight slim and doesn''t overwhelm a medium sized room with its presence. The picture is very good as would be expected from Sony, the colours are vibrant and the blacks are black enough I am not going to dwell on how black, it is not that important to me or to the viewing quality, enough to say nothing is blurred, everything is sharp and clean. I do think Sony is sitting on its laurels where the software is concerned, they seem to be behind in comparison to others I have tried. Its clunky and unintuitive. Why are there TWO remotes, surely a company with the technological background of the mighty Sony corporation have the ability to combine the functions into just the one remote control? The menu''s are just not friendly and there is absolutely No manual accompanying the TV just a huge multi language sheet and some loose leaf stuff, none of which is that helpful to navigate the menus. Some things seem automatic, I searched in vain for the control to switch back to the TV speakers from my sound bar and all I needed to do was switch off the sound bar and wait, the speakers on the TV came in by themselves, but I had wasted time looking for the control. The sync between the TV and the soundbar is not automatic either and it needs adjusting with the soundbar software not the TV every other TV I have used this sound-bar with has automatically adjusted! Everything was out of flunter films, live broadcasts and normal TV, most annoying to see the lips moving without the sound in sync. There are two main methods to set the TV up, nothing is straightforward, using the Google tv is quite annoying with the amount of personal info required. But I can’t blame Sony for that. The other method is as a basic TV still more complicated than necessary. Using Freeview or Freesat is accommodated but again the setup is fiddly. I am squeezing four stars, though begrudgingly because the rest is so good. Beautiful TV, lovely picture quality, averagely priced in the 43 range but needs work on the software, remote(S) and manual I think.

    Fabulous...

    5/5
Fabulous!!! This television has replaced my previous Sony Bravia 43” Smart television which I purchased six years ago and which has provided excellent trouble free service since I bought it. Setting up the new one and tuning it in was very easy to do. It was good to see that all the input sockets are all conveniently located together on one side of the set making cable routing tidy. Sony’s ECO Dashboard allows you to make adjustments that help to reduce the power consumption of the set and save you up to 30% on your usage. Once it was up and running I was pleasantly surprised to see just how good the picture quality is thanks to Sony’s 4K picture processor X1 which brings scenes vividly to life in bright true to life detail with strong colours and high contrast. Ultra High definition is available to view on selected Netflix content and there is also some content available on the BBC iPlayer for free! – the picture definition in ultra high definition is breathtaking. The sound is pretty good too for a flat panel TV but a sound bar would be a nice addition. The built in You View tv guide has improved a lot since the last version I had on my previous TV. Channel listings are clearly displayed and it’s also easy to access the “catch up” services such as the BBC iPlayer , ITV X, CH4 etc. The Google Home page displays viewing suggestions for you based on your existing viewing habits and preferences, it covers all the main content providers. Most of the apps you need are all on the home screen and you can download others if you wish from the play store. “Now” tv was absent so I simply downloaded it from the Play store and it now resides on the home screen. Personally I would have liked a bit more control over the layout of the home screen and also to be able to “hide” apps that I have no interest in, just to tidy up and simplify the home screen and organise things to my liking. I was really surprised to find that there was no “Google Movies” app shortcut anywhere, especially as this is a Google TV! After a bit of google searching I found that it is built in but you have to access it by using the built in microphone on the remote control and asking it to “open google movies” which it does. Maybe something for a future update? The ability to use voice commands proved to be really useful the more I used it. The TV comes supplied with two small remote controls, please see my photo’s. Personally I would have preferred to have just one remote that covered all the functions. The menu structure is very good and accessing the settings menu to make adjustments to the picture and sound etc. is much improved over the previous model. Five free movies are available automatically with this set when load up the Sony Core movie channel. The channel offers higher picture quality to the likes of Netflix and Amazon and no registration is required! To conclude I have to say that this is a truly excellent television. It offers fantastic picture quality with a good feature set. It is excellent value for money and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. You will not be disappointed!

Good entry level 43 inch smart, Sony hd tv

    5/5
I would 100% recommend this TV, and this is the reasons why not only does it come with two remote controls of which one is a standard remote control that everyone will be used to any other remote control is a more digital version , both do exactly the same job with the same features, but just in a slightly different format , also the fact that this TV does come with an instruction paper manual, but it has a digital set up version as well which talks you through how to set the TV up correctly and upload all the apps stuff of that nature , which, for someone like me, that’s a complete and utter 1990s tech person found it very easy to set up , the picture quality is brilliant. It also has four HDMI sockets which are interchangeable which means gone of the days of when if you want to plug the skybox in through an HDMI cable you had to use a specific socket or a sound bar in another socket. You can put whatever you want to plug in in any socket and it will recognise what’s your plugging in. , the internal sound system is quite good and if you just used that alone, you would be quite happy with it , but I’m using a Sony sound bar with sub box plugged in via HDMI cable and it is brilliant. The picture quality is great. The fact that the TV is completely black in colour is good for me there’s no chrome as I do like a black TV. It also is wall mountable, but you will have to make provisions for the cables and please bear in mind this particular TV no longer has a Scott socket so if you’re using older tech that doesn’t have facilities for an optical cable or a HDMI cable then it may not be compatible with this TV unless there’s an adapter out there , this particular model is available in this size and a bigger version and one thing I would like to add regarding the remote control. If your other product is plugged in such as a DVD player, for example, a sound bar you get my drift, they can all be controlled with the one TV remote control. I’ve had the TV now a couple of weeks and I haven’t found any negatives. I watch the Glastonbury festival on the TV and the picture quality was brilliant
